Are you copying it to the internal drive or an external firewire drive? I found that my iBook can't always handle burning a large image file from an external drive to my external burner via the one firewire port.

are you sure you do not have a faulty firewire port. if you plugged in your fw cable while your camera was on, you could have broken the firewire port on the camera...
i hope that didnt happen, but that could be a cause. also, your cable may be loose and a slight wiggle may cause the camcorder to loose connection with the computer.

Does this have ANY relationship to a Mac problem at all?

How can we help when you give no specifics? What are the specs of the computer you're using? Which software specifically are you trying to use? From reading your post, you mention nothing about using a mac, nor any mac based software.

i agree with MRTrauffer...more info needed...

but on another note....
MRTrauffer, how is it working with final cut pro on a 20 inch display...
does it fit your needs or is it just barely fitting. im looking to buy one, but i want to beable to have both the canvas and viewer set to 100% when viewing standard mini-dv footage..
would it meet my needs...?

The 20" does just fine at home, but if you can afford it, I'd recommend a dual setup, either 20" or 23". At work, I use dual 23" displays, which I like much better.

There's a pic of my work setup here.

I've also done some long-format projects on my 15" powerbook, which has also worked out well. But I use a Logitech MX-610 and use the scroll wheel alot.

well, i was thinking 1 23 inch display for primary, 1-20 inch display for secondary, and a TV monitor connected to the side connected via firewire.
im an impatient guy with only $500 for now..lol...
so ill have to see what would happen...

nice set up though....makes my dual 17 inch set up look bad....which is a good thing..lol

if the tape has a dropout on it it will stop any import into any NLE, in FCP you can choose 'ignore dropped frames' that seems may be your issue.
