I've been trying to put together a media center built around my Mac Mini, and one of the components I'm having trouble with is offloading content from my Motorola 6412 Dual Tuner HD DVR from Comcast. I played around with the AVCVideoCap app that comes with FireWireSDK20, and at first it seemed to be working: I recorded a minute of HD from ESPN, NBC, and FOX and it seems to output a geniune m2t file, but when I try to open the file in VLC, I get a split second of garbled video that slightly resembles the recorded show, and then it stops. Not sure what I'm doing wrong, but I'm just experimenting right now with getting the best setup. Also, if anyone has suggestions on how to offload stuff that has been prerecorded onto my DVR (particularly HD- if ESPN, HBO, etc. are not, in fact, encrypted), I would appreciate it.

Now that summer break is here, I'd like to get this project completed, so if anyone wants to discuss possible mac media center solutions- DVR, HD, ripping/storing DVDs, hard drives, interface apps (Front Row, MythTV ), pvr sofware and hardware, video capture cards, whatever.

Does that work for you? For me it just tells me my Application Support folder has the wrong permissions (which it doesn't), and quits.

hmm, I have no such problem. it's certainly not the most robust app in the world, but works as advertised. the scheduling feature is nice to have.

ok, after finding and removing an old iRecord folder in application support, I got it to launch. But now when I create events they pass by and the app does nothing. What device are you using? I have a moto 6200

moto 6412, the one with the built in DVR. the scheduling fearure worked fine for me, but the channel changing was a little weird to figure out. I got it to work but it was more hassle than it was worth and I ended up just leaving the moto box on the channel I wanted to record.
I'm speaking in past tense because I've recently cancelled my comcast service and no longer have the box. I will be happy to review my settings next fall when scifi friday starts again and I re-subscribe to cable.
