I have a system I use4 at home for overdubbing, editing, etc my productions that has worked rock solidly for 3 years. G4 Dual 867 MDD, 2 gigs of RAM, MOTU PCI-324 and MOTU MK2, Adaptec UltraSCSI with 2 SCSI Drives in addition to the Mac drive, and I run Cubase VST 5.1 and Logic Platinum, although I am upgrading to OSX and Cubase SX3 soon.
I'd still like to work in Mac OS 9.2.2 sometimes and would like to use the UAD card freely.
After installing my new Universal Audio UAD-1 card (Studio Pack), I started experiencing pops and crackles. So, I went and download the latest drivers they had for the PCI-324 for OS 9,2,2
Seemed to help some for a little while....
When I disabled the UAD extensions problem would go away.
Mostly I noticed that if I opened a new song and reloaded audio files it would work for awhile perfectly. (By the way, their plugins sound INCREDIBLE...and I've worked with the real units).
Swapped out PCI slots on all my stuff, put the sound card closest to the video card, and the UAD next to it.
Now it's somewhat better, although just when it seems like it won't pop or crackle anymore, it will start again.
Is my bus speed 133 mhz an issue with the UAD card with UltraSCSI and PCI soundcard.
Typically I run 20-40 tracks and virtual instruments. CPU has always handled everything well.
The last thing to try is turning the monitor to 1000's of colors instead of millions to see if freeing up bandwidth in the bus system will help since it shares bandwidth on the PCI bus.
Any suggestions on other things I could try that would solve the problem?
