So i have a new macbook pro with final cut pro 5.1 installed on it, however, the systems at the facility i work in only uses final cut pro 5.0.4. Is there any way i can use the save files from 5.1 to work with the 5.0.4 (or older) software? I can imagine that there is some sort of converting software which can do so.

There should be no need to convert or change anything. Seeing as the only update in 5.1 was the universal status, everything else, including, I assume, file formats, stays the same.
