I've got an 8mb quicktime clip I want to e mail a friend. I right click and archive it and now have an 8 mb zip file. Did I miss something? thanks.

The video in the file is already compressed (in the same way that a JPEG or MP3 is already compressed), so it's unlikely that file compression like ZIP will make it any smaller.

Once you have opened the movie with QuickTime Player, export it with some codec to get a smaller file, the 3ivx codec would be a good choice,

MPEG-4 H.264 would be a good choice. It's a standard which guarantees that your movie will be playable on any platform for any time without requiring people to download something.

Just open it in Quicktime and use the File> Share> to E-mail it will reduce the file size for you.

3ivx is actually more compatible than H.264. 3ivx is 100% playback compatible with Apple's QT6 decoder (whereas they would need QT7 to play H.264 as well as steeper hardware requirements), as long as you don't enable the MPEG Quantizer when encoding.
