I want to get into some recording using GarageBand And was wondering if Apple's GarageBand guitar & mic cords are worth the money. I've been able to record a bit of guitar & vocals using a serious of adapters. I can't seem to get a strong signal for recording.

Do Apple's cords work better?

What about the M-Audio Fast Track USB? Is it a better option for input?

Thanks

Your question mostly depends on what Mac you have. If your Mac has Line Level input, then you have to have some kind of pre-amp to get a signal into your Mac. If your Mac has Mic Level input, then you could use one of the "Garage Band Cords". I assume you're referring to Monster Cables product.

Then it depends on your objectives. If you're serious about recording, then you're going to want a pre-amp. I use the M-Audio Fast Track Pro because I need phantom power for my condenser mics, I usually need to record two tracks simultaneously also.

I would recommend the Fast Track Pro because it works great with Garage Band, but it all depends on your objectives.

I have an iBook G4 that I use an iMic and Garageband cord with. The signal and quality are both great, and the iMic lets you switch between Line and Mic level inputs.

I have an Intel iMac. I already own a mic so I don't plan to get an iMic. I don't need to record more than one track simultaneously either, so maybe the GarageBand cables may suffice.
