I want to record a clip from a DVD on my ibook.

Is there anything (free preferably) that will allow me to, while a movie is playing to record a clip while the movie is playing?

I was going to see if "myVCR" would work.

Any suggestions would be awsome.

Thanks

Ernie

Legally, there is no way to do this with a commercial DVD. Those DVD are mostly encrypted with a copy prtecton scheme (Macrovision or something else) and don't allow the signal to be recorded on a VHS, another DVD or a computer.

There are a few ways to acheive what you seek, if you don't fear the Dark Side...

Hhhhhmmmm...Dark Side you say.

I'm not interested in ripping the disk. I only need about a 2 min clip.

I'm pretty sure any illegal activity here is a no-no.

But if I could maybe get nudged in the general direction. I would be forever greatful.

Option A)
don't use Apple's DVDplayer app, but VLC… and buy a tool as SnapzPro to record screen content....
Option B)
buy DVDxDV
http://www.dvdxdv.com/DVDxDV.overview.htm
which allows you to convert a DVD or parts of into something editable...
buuuut, that works only with non-copyprotected DVDs

Option C)
if quality is not priority No. Uno, have a look at this tool:
http://mac.softpedia.com/get/Video/HandBrake.shtml
it converts DVD to mpeg4... which is easily covertable into something usefull....

Option D)
http://mactheripper.org/
... does not offer the download of the best tool for ripping DVDs... because it is illegal in most territories......

I use a commercial app called Cinematize to do this. You still have to use MacTheRipper first though.
