So here's the deal. I've been trying to record a podcast witha friend of mine 2 weeks ago and the result isn't all that great. In fact, it is worse than I had imagines. We tried doing it through Skype because it's the only way can talk to each other and record at the same time.

Problem is that the recording doesn't sound all that great, like there is this continuous background noise that I can't get rid of. I use Wiretap pro to record both my voice and his voice and I tried with garageband but it doesn't give me better sound quality so it is definitely the Mic. His is even worse since it's his webcam Mic and it far from being as good as mine, but you can still hear the background noise on my recordings.

So anyone has produced podcasts using their internal mics and skype and got good results? And what did you do that made it sound so good?

The background noise on the recording is the internal fan/hard drive of the iMac.

The internal Mic is designed for chatting, not recording.

There is nothing you can do, other than getting a decent microphone.

Samson has some pretty nice USB mics that have a mic pre-amp built in.

Analogika speaks the truth.

And even with an external mic, you're still gonna get some background noise.

SoundSoap will clean a lot of noise out of there if you're prepared to spend some moola.
Congratulations, you have chosen to take the blue pill.

Clarification:

Definitely invest in a microphone *first*, though.

A decent microphone without SoundSoap is going to beat the hell out of the iMac's internal mic *with* SoundSoap.
