Thanks for the replies... but how would I then play them? Will Quicktime allow me to play these files?

Best,

You should be able to use VLC. If not, search Versiontracker/Google for an FLV player.

I had some trouble getting keepvid.com to work with a few clips. The site that Jacke posted seemed to work better for me.

After you download the clip, just use iSquint to convert it to .mp4. That's what I do.

Slick shoes?!! Are you crazy?!!

There is no version for Mac Intel. The only path that was supposed to lead to a Universal version does not work.

PodTube (google for it or check the PodTube thread in the iPod forum) will download them off the YouTube site and convert *many* (but not all) of them.

For those it won't do, use iSquint.org to convert to quicktime-readable format.

Hi, I'm a newbie here.

I'm the author of YouRipper: which will come as no surprise when I tell you that, it is a YouTube video downloader. It's 100% FREEWARE - No Ads - No Adware - No Spyware

YouRipper is very easy to use, just put the url to the YouTube page you want to rip, assign a filename and click 'get'.

There are full details on my website, Creators of KnowledgeBASE Suite where you will also find other freeware goodies I wrote.

You can download YouRipper direct from:

http://downloads.remlapsoftware.com/youripper101.exe (872 kb) Uninstall is included.
(Win 98/NT/ME/XP/2003)

A screenshot can be viewed at:

http://www.remlapsoftware.com/images/youripper_shot.jpg

Any problems or questions, just drop me a line to robert@remlapsoftware.com

Enjoy....

there is no need for an app to download video in youtube. in safari, go to window > activity. Then it opens a window with all windows/tabs opened. Then find the bigest file from the window opened and double-click. You will download the movie. Sometimnes it is in flv format, if it is not, just rename it to name.flv. After that just use isquint it to convert to mp4.
Sorry about my english, i tryed hard , i'm from brazil.
any doubts i send a screenshot.

Worked like a charm, I just looked for the .flv file, clicked on it to download, then dragged to isquint.

Thanks!

Or you can use PodTube. Which is nice because it will convert it right to your iTunes.

Download and install Perian

Perian - A swiss-army knife for QuickTime

Then you can play the straight .flv youtube files right in quicktime player.

I've downloaded dozens of files from YouTube using that stupid PodTube program, and it's only ever converted about five, and only ever actually added TWO of those to iTunes.

PodTube should work 95% of the time. You need to trim the fat off the urls.

should look like

cut off the fat and reload. The Safari web page (PodTube only works with Safari) with the YouTube video should be highlighted before you hit the "get video" key. If the bin file does not transform into a mp4 (after the download is done and while encoding) there is a problem with the file =redo.

The download works just fine, every time.

The conversion almost never works, and in the very rare cases where it has, it's only ever added two files to iTunes.

The files it downloads are ALL perfectly fine - iSquint has converted every single one without any problems whatsoever.
