I have one of those converters provided by ATI. This converts the S-Video (7-pin) to an RCA out.
However I have hooked up a S-Video (normal 4-pin) Y adapter to the back of my computer. I have a long wire already connected from my computer to the TV in the living room.
Now the crux of the problem. The other hookup I need to convert from S-Video (4-pin) to RCA. I have seen that I can purchase this item for $22 from Radio Shack. I was so disgusted by this price... I begin to wonder whether I can use that connector that was provided by ATI.
Here is the problem... the female jack to plug the S-Video into is 4-pin. My adapter provided by ATI is 7-pin. So I'm wondering whether I can just break the extra 3 pins off the adapter and hook it up that way thus avoiding the $22 payment to Radio Shack.
The 4-pins on this S-Video(7-pin) to RCA adapter are in the same position as the normal S-Video (4-pin)... only it has 3 extra pins that prevent me from plugging it into the Y adapter mentioned above.
Now I have some concern that perhaps this S-Video(7-pin) to RCA does not convert the signal of the 4-pin area... but used the extra pins to convert. Is that so?
Does anyone know if I can indeed break the extra 3 pins?
