i have never used a back up or and extra drive so hang in here. (i will be useing a laptop)
one- can i put my music on a Dif. harddrive then my laptops and play music from it via itunes on my laptop?
two- can i back up all my files to that same extra drive, and play itunes music off of it?

Yes, you can do all of that. You can copy your iTunes folder in your user's Music folder over to your external drive. Then you need to go into iTunes Preferences and change the path to the music library.
