i migrated a lot of my avi movies to my new intel mac and i was wondering if i could convert them to something more mac friendly? what program would work well for that?

If you don't have a specific reason for doing this, don't do it. Use VLC or the Divx codec to play them.

well when i had my pc, my digital camera imported movies in AVI, and i'd like to conglomerate those movies into a film (me flying my RC helicopter). i tried playing a few in VLC and it wouldn't work.

I had the same issue with video footage from my digital still camera, but the files played fine in quicktime. You'll probably have to install the Divx codec before that'll work for you, though.
