Can anyone help with this? I am trying to copy my store purchased DVD movies to my iPod. The guys at the Apple store were not allowed to tell me how to do this - understandlably so. Anyhow, if you can help please let me know. Thanks

Well I have another question. At what bitrate should I rip my DVDs to get about the same image quality (using H.264) ? 1000kbps ? 1500 kbps ?
I looked (not too hard) but couldn't immediately find something.

Maybe a mod could make a dvd conversion sticky. That would put to rest most of these threads.
Lets vote on it: YAY or NAY

It varies, depending on the source. Really grainy footage that's poorly shot will need a higher bitrate. I usually encode a sample clip and eye out what bitrate looks best. Of course, if you need it compressed at a certain size, more quality is potentially lost.

How does that apply for 5G iPods? -not aimed to output on a TV- Would I do need to care about higher than 320*240 resolutions?

It applies to 5G iPods in that they CAN be connected for output to a TV.
The original poster did not specify, and neither did you.
This forum is open to the general public, which DOES connect their iPods to TVs.
