Hi Folks:
I've been thinking about buying a MiniDisc recorder and would like some advice. I am looking for an easy to carry, good quality digital recorder for doing interviews that later can be brought into my Mac for podcasting. For instance, I would use the device with a microphone attached and conduct field interviews, or capture ambient sound, etc. (I also have wireless lavalier setup that can be used)
Are MiniDisc player/recorders the best solution here? An iPod with a Belkin recording unit seems to not be as good as a higher end Sony MiniDisc Hi-MD. I'd like good quality, capacity, and easy transfer to my Mac. In my Mac I'd play with the sound in GarageBand.
This Sony sounds good but expensive: SONY - MZ M200 HIMD

Anybody out there who has been recording, or using MiniDiscs or other alternatives? Any suggestions?

I once used an old Sony MZR37 for a bit of recording, and the sound quality was superb. It was near-CD, though I could not easily tell the difference. That was with older types of encoding and much lower capacity media. I am willing to bet that if you use the HI-MD recorder in PCM (uncompressed) mode, you will be very happy with the performance, if you have it hooked up to a good mic.
One little warning about using it as an MP3 player-the last time I chcked which was a couple of years back on a NetMD player, the Sony DRM is nuts.
Also, I use to go to minidisc.org for information when I used MDs a lot.

Thanks! I'm reading plenty at minidisc.org or minidisco.org, I've also recently come across the Ediro R-09. Anybody familiar with it?
Thanks Tuoder!

Not familiar with it, but Edirol is Roland, so it should be quality gear. In my experience, Roland stuff tends to blow Sony out of the water.

I googled it. It seems awfully expensive. The other thing is that flash can get to be very expensive if you do a lot of recording at a time. This is especially true if you use uncompressed or lossless formats.
