I'm checking out options for recording on the iPod. After searching and reading online, it looks like there are a couple options now ...

Xtreme Mac MicroMemo

Belkin TuneTalk

Would either of these options work well for recording voice audio presentation (from sound board)? I will probably post mp3s to a website/podcast.

Thanks!

Any preferences/recommendations of one 3rd-party product over the other?

Also, will the iPod record in .wav only? What's the process for converting it to mp3 (for podcast)?

Finally, how long will the iPod battery last while recording? IOW, what kind of impact does the recording have on the battery?

Sorry for what may be basic questions. The audio/recording aspect of technology is new to me.

Both devices will store their recordings in a separate folder called "Recordings" on the top level of the iPod. You can choose between "high" and "low" quality for recording. "High" is 16-bit/44kHz WAV; I have no idea what "low" is, sorry.

WAVs can be converted to whatever format you wish in iTunes, using the "Advanced" --> "Convert selection to <whatever input format is set in the Advanced preferences of iTunes>…"

We just briefly tested these devices in the store; unfortunately, I cannot attest to battery life at all. Both worked well enough, though the Belkin seemed a little more solid to me. The MicroMemo wasn't recognized at least once until we reconnected it, though that may have been the Dock connector on the demo iPod.
