So I've been playing with iMovie '06, and for the most part I love it. The themes are great and the effects are easy to use. I'm working with the Travel theme "opening" where there are several pictures that scroll across the screen. I have high quality 5 megapixel pictures "dropped" into the drop zones that look great on their own. After I apply the theme and it pops into my timeline, the pictures are somewhat pixelated and look a bit blurry. They do not movie all that smoothly across the screen and they just don't look high quality anymore. I created projects in DV, DV Widescreen, and HD 1080i with the same results.

Has anyone seen this effect? If so, have you gotten around it? I did some internet searching, but have yet to come up with any real solution. The computer is Macbook Pro 17", 2.16 w/ 1.5gb of ram. TIA!

The themes should play smoothly when rendered and played on the DVD player. That has been my experience-a bit jerky in the project but smooth on the DVD. Someone else can comment on the pictures but on my 5 year old SD TV they are acceptable. But that is not saying much...

Have you burned any of your projects to see how they look?

I haven't burned any, but I did output the to a .mov file. It looks a little sharper using the 1080i format, but it's still a bit jerky. I'll burn it to a dvd and see what I get. Thank you for the input!

I'll second the idea of burning a test disc. For the same result and to save a disc, go File->Save As Disc Image. You'll be creating an exact copy of what would normally be burned onto the disc, you'll just save yourself from burning a disc just to test it out. If you like the results you can always burn the disc image to a DVD, it'll be the same as doing it directly from iDVD.
