I'd like to transfer some VHS tapes to VCD. I have a 8600 with a G3/300 upgrade card, UltraSCSI card and drives, CD-RW, Toast 5.0, Quicktime Pro, and iMovie. What software do I need to capture the video from the built-in RCA jacks? Apple Video Player only seems capable of capturing a few minutes of video at a time and iMovie doesn't recognize the analog inputs. What software do I need?

You can convert any QuickTime-compatible movie file to a VCD using Toast 5. So, you could use something like BTV Edit ( http://www.SolutionUK.com/btv/ ) to import your video into a QuickTime file. Be sure pay the shareware fee because the unregistered version will only import video at about 3 frames a second (and normally video is 29.97!). It is small and easy to use.

Once you have the movie file the right size and frame rate you should just be able to use Toast. Watch out though, it takes 6 hours to convert one hour of video on my G4 Cube (450). You will probably aslo need about 1.3GB of space to save all of your associated files (not to mention the original QuickTime file).

Both iMovie and Final Cut Pro will only recognize FireWire video sources, not even USB.
