Hello,
I was hoping to have my family send over some DVDs that I can't get here in the States. However, before I do, I want to be sure if they will work. So, has anyone tried "English" DVDs on a US iMac? Is there such a thing as an English DVD? I would by playing them on a 400mhz iMac DV. Cheers,
MacmanX

Most European DVDs have region code 2, while North-American DVDs have region code 1. Your DVD drive can probably only play region 1 and region code free DVDs. If you want to play DVDs with different region codes, you'll have to patch the firmware of your DVD drive.

Patching Firmware? The DVD in my G3 400 PowerBook is set to a region when a DVD's from that region are played 5 times. How can I patch it to allow a different region to be set/played? Can I do this repeatedly?

Don't forget that England also has a different television standard (PAL) than the US (NTSC). I belive the Apple DVD Player will do both, but don't think you can play a PAL disc in a standard NTSC-only set-top player.
