I need to make a very simple movie - basically I have a 10 min soundtrack and 5 images. I need the following.

Sound starts, then at:

cuepoint 1) Cut in Picture 1
cuepoint 2) Fade out Picture 1, timing the fade so it completes at cuepoint 3
cuepoint 3) Cut in Picture 2
cuepoint 4) Cut in Picture 3
cuepoint 5) Cut in Picture 4
cuepoint 6) Cut in Picture 5 and immediately start fade so that the fade completes when the sound ends.

This should be so easy, but I don't know what app to use. Originally I was doing it in Director as I work in Director a lot, but the problem is that it is too inaccurate - I need the shots to cut in at exactly the right moment and Director can't seem to get it quite right. Also, because Director only has 100 levels of blend, and the initial fade lasts over a minute, the fade looks crap as it is not gradual enough.

What software should I use? Ideally I just want to see my soundtrack on a timeline and be able to place the images at the right points along it, put in the fades and be able to save it as a QT movie. In fact it doesn't necessarily have to be quicktime. I can't believe I can't find an application that will let me put something as simple as this together.

thanks - I'll give it a go, I think I got a copy of iMovie 2 with my powerbook. I actually just installed a copy of final cut pro which I think is to iMovie what a powerbook is to an iBook

However, I cannot work Final Cut Pro out, and I think it is overkill anyway - hopefully iMovie is simpler. Now...where is that CD???
