Sorenson 3 missing?

Hi,

Does any one know why Sorenson 3 was dropped from the release version of QuickTime 5.0.1? On a related note, Sorenson isn't listed among the partners in the Component Download program.

Something is wrong here...

While I'm at it - it is very lame to not be able to play back mpeg2 movies - not even in the pro version! I wouldn't care if they made it twice as expensive and included that functionality.

good question.
Where is Sorenson Video 3? Why release a new version of QuickTime if it doesn't have the latest codecs. If the video quality is the same QuickTime 5 doesn't offer much over 4. 95% of my quicktime use is for video, so other features of QT5 don't do anything for me and most likely most other people.

What about Mpeg-2 and Mpeg-4?

It looks to me as though Sørensen 3 is not done yet. That is most likely the reason it is not included in the shipping version of QT5. I would assume that it will be available as a dowload via the QuickTime update engine when it is done.

My Sorenson developer version is still intact - I'm not sure what you guys are missing - Sorenson support is built into QT or else QT wouldn't work with files encoded with it.

oops- my error, you guys wanted a NEW and IMPROVED Sorenson 3 - now I'm questioning what the value of QT5 is - I mean, other than skins, what IS new in QT5? oh well.

From MacFixIt today:

The Sorenson 3 codec missing from the release of QuickTime 5.0.1 will soon reappear. Here is the latest from Norman Doyle, VP of Engineering for Sorenson Media:

"The Sorenson Video 3 decoder had some last minute performance issues so it was pulled from the release. We are working hard to fix the issues and will have it ready for you just as soon as is reasonably possible. Thanks for your support of Sorenson Video."

A reader who spoke with someone on the show floor at NAB reports that Sorensen told him that the codec would be available in about a month or so.
