I received my long-awaited Formac Studio today. A quick-start instruction sheet states that I can't plug the Formac Studio into the Firewire port of my computer at the same time as another Firewire device, like a DV camera, is plugged in. Doing so might cause damage to the computer. Would that be, because the computer can't power two devices at the same time?

I called Formac support today and found out that it has to do with a problem in FireWire 2.7. Currently, the Mac can't distinguish between two camera devices on the FireWire bus. Apple, I was told, is planning to fix this.

In other words, it is not an issue of current draw on the FireWire ports.

Hmmm, I will be getting my Formac Studio (FireWire) next week and want to use it with a FireWire 75GB hard drive to edit DV clips. Is what you're saying is that I cannot use both the Format Studio AND my FireWire drive at the same time? I sure hope this is not the case.
