iMovie doesn't like mpegs but that's what one of our digital cameras uses. Is there any program that can convert movies from mpegs to just plain quicktime format?

Can't you just use the QuickTime Player program? It can open just about anything and then export as all sorts of things (including QuickTime movie files and even a DV Stream that iMovie should like). You may need to pay the $30 for the "Pro" version to get all the options avialable.

QT 5 Pro is the way to go. $30 it's a steal, despite what some people are bitchin about. You can even make lovely cupcakes with sprinkles with it. (well, not really, but you eat one whilst installing it -if that makes you feel better) Support Apple products!

Actually, if all you need to do is export, you could use movieplayer 2.5 - this will allow you to do exports using just about any codecs installed with your current Quicktime installation.

Movieplayer 2.5 is easy to find too; I found a copy on one of my Sarah McLachlan CDs.

If the MPEGs are MUXed (i.e. audio and video in one track), you will end up with a video-only QuickTime clip. You will need a deMUXing utility and then import the clips as seperate audio and video files into iMovie.

If the MPEGs are not MUXed, you're all set.
