Is it true I've got make all my file names eight characters to start with?

I bought a Rio Volt MP3 player and want to create my first CD. Someone told me it's not as simple and that the file names became critical.

Please advise.
Thanks.

Why not simply use iTunes to burn your MP3 CD? But anyway, I don't think file names will be a problem if you burn it with Toast.
I abused my signature until she cried.

I'm going to burn a one CD with ten hours of mp3s on it.
I heard that requires a different file name format.

it depends on what your player requires. I have one of the first no-name players to come to market, and it requires very specific settings: ISO9660, with MS-DOS names (this setting will automatically cut your file names down to 8.3 characters), and Append Version Numbers. I also have to change it from CD-ROM XA to CD-ROM. Basically I just change every widget in Toast from the default. Toast 5's mp3 disk's don't work for my player.

you'll have to investigate your player's requirements, either by consulting Rio's website, or by just trying things.

Thanks for the explanation.
I too have the Phillips (Apex) brand DVD/CD/mp3 player and that's what I thought for those early versions one must do extra things.

On the other hand I do have the new Rio Volt which I've not tried yet so HOPEFULLY toast could do an mp3 CD easily?
