I am looking to buy a DV camera to compliment my iMac. I can't afford top of the line, but don't want bottom of the barrel. I would really appreciate a few suggestions.
Thanks

If you are planning on using Imovie I would check with the apple web site for a list of compatable cameras. Most are but I would double check this. I personally use and prefer a Sony TRV series.

Have fun

I have a Sony VX 700 and a VX 1000 - both decent cams, but the VX1000 has a 3ccd chipset so it offers higher image quality. Both cams can use different lenses, gels. The new VX2000 has slightly more resolution, a built-in XLR connector and a view screen. Battery life is amazing on all but the VX2000.

You could probably find the older VX1000 for under $1000 - this camera may not have a 3000x zoom, but it's the best image quality I have seen from any prosumer DV camera.

If you have tons of money, you can get the XL-1 - which out of the box is lesser than the VX1000 - but the XL-1 uses a professional lens mount so you can attach a $3000 lens and make it better. People also think that the XL-1 looks cool, but I don't care about that.

For your money's worth I'd stick to the Sony's - TRV series is pretty affordable, and the VX series a notch up. Check Ebay or a buy-lines to see what the market demands and do some reading: www.dv.com

There are so many choices!
