I need to record a radio interview next week that is being streamed over Real Networks. Is there any Mac application that allows you to record the audio stream in .wav,.aiff,.mp3 or another format? The programs I've looked at only have an ability to record off of Sound In devices.

If you are not using OS X - get a copy of Snapz Pro. This screensnapshot utility allows you to record a movie of your screen or a portion therof. I use it all the time to record RealAudio streams and it works great. You start up your stream and start SnapzPro recording. Tell it to record a 1" by 1" square or something since you aren't really interested in the video anyway. After you are done recording a dialog will appear asking to save the mov and asking if you want to save both the audio and video. Turn off video and save audio only. Then you will get a Quicktime movie with only audio - from there its a simple matter to open it in Quicktime and export to AIF (to convert to MP3) or whatever format you want.
Sounds hokey - but I searched for years before I found this method and it really works well.
One thing to remember - in most cases - SnapzPro will also record system beeps, mouse click noises, etc....so you probably don't want to do much on your machine while you are recording.

Why would the Mac OS X version of Snapz Pro not have this ability?

Thanks. I forgot that SP2 records video and audio. Question though: Since I'm not using the video track, does it make a difference what I set the frame rate to? I think if I set it to 1 then it will run faster. I noticed when it was set on the default (which was 25 fps, I think) it seemed to stutter just a little.
As backup, I'll run a line out to my MD recorder, but if SP2 works out well, all the better. I prefer keeping the recording totally digital without the analog transfer.

If you have access to a PC there a couple of apps that will to the trick.
On the Mac side, you're limited. I use a little extension called 'AIFF writer" that records ALL sounds digitally as an AIFF file. You should be able to find it on shareware sites. It's OS 9 only.
If you can't find it send me an e-mail and I'll send it.

Well I'm glad I decided to record through my MD as a backup, since the write of the SnapzPro file failed and froze my machine. Now I'll just save the audio as AIFF.
