I am instrested in recording some snippets off a DVD (20-30 seconds at most) and then editing them for comedic effect, ie adding in extra sounds, text on the screen, etc. It appears I need both a way to record, and then a way to edit.

I do not know how to record, but I do have iMovie 1, if that can help me with the editing. If anyone can tell me how to do this, or at least point me in the right direction, I'd appriciate it!

Machine: PowerBook 2K, 400 MHz, 6 GB HD, 192 MB RAM, DVD drive

TIA,

Let it burn.

Record the DVD to VHS, plug your VCR into your Mac (using a FireWire device if you have the money, or waiting for Eskape Lab's $200 MyVideo USB solution), edit, back to the VHS.

or

Use a DV camera (FireWire) and film the screen while the DVD plays, then import and edit.

Assuming your source DVD is not encrypted and its legal to copy to your hard drive using a ripping tool, you can use Cleaner 5 from Terran to set in and out points to an m2v file, and recompress the clip to whatever form you like.
