I will be purchasing a CCD camera to be used with a microscope. The resolution is 470 lines and the output is S video and NTSC. Will I be able to input this signal into an iBook with firewire and USB ports or will I need an adaptor. What are some good software for editing still photos. Thanks

Sounds like a job for the XLR8 InterView. It will allow you to take full VGA 640x480 stills and 320x240 video capture. It'll cost between 69 & 99 bucks.

Good Luck.

Can anyone recommend a good full-screen video input PCI card? Also, will that card work with Strata VideoShop and Final Cut Pro? The last requirement is the ability to compress the video into fullscreen mpeg format. Any suggestions?

Aurua makes some quality products in this arena, as does Targus. The Targus Cine Card and the Aurua Igniter card are both approved to work with Final Cut, I think that Video Shop will work with just about anything. Both cards are expensive, and if you would like a slightly lower cost option, look at the Aurua fuse. you'll have to import video into videoShop, then transfer it to Final Cut, but Video Shop is included, and it seems as though it will give you very high quality.

Keep in mind, none of this mans anything if you don't have a fast enough hard drive or hard drive array to capture the data being thrown at it. At the very least a 7200 RPM SCSI-2 drive, at best the Media array available in the back of the ClubMac catalog. If you need more info, feel free to contact me: videoalex@mac.com
