I'm doing a prodject were I need 100 CDRs burned. I'm useing my ibook 500 with a Lacie 24x burner. The first 12 or so I burned were fine. After that I started getting A LOT of "please insert recordable disc" messages. I'm almost through the 100 pack and at leaste 35 disc have done this. I have 12 to go.

Could me burner be getting tired? I put in a regular Maxell CDR and it worked fine. Makes me think "imation" are CRAP!!!!

Any ideas?

They were the first brand I tried (out of about 10 now, probably) When I got my 4x burner. I've never had a problem with any certain brand of CD's.

are you sure they're rated for 24x?

Well it says on the disc 16x but the recorder automaticaly adjust to the fastest speed the disc can handle. Its come up at 16x before instead of 24x.

BUT I've tried this moring to rewrite the same disc that it was rejecting and most of them are working now. Weird. My burner was off for several hours. I wonder if it heats up too much. Still some errors. Usually it will go from "waiting for writer" to burning button in a second or two. NOw it seems to take MUCH longer to get to that stage.

Keep them coming

I stopped using Imation and Maxell because I found they scratched much more easily. I've been using Memorex for quite some time now and have had no complaints.

Imation CDRs come from what is generally considered one of the best cdr factories...

Imation CDRs are crap. I saw a 10% "please insert recordable disc" or other error rate on a 100 spindle I bought. Others are noting same problem on the web. I've never had a problem with any other CDRs

I feel best about the Verbatims.

intresting, I went back and tried them again, the ones that didnt work. They actually ALL worked. BUT I had them running also in my 2x SCSI burner. Some of the same ones that didnt work on the fire wire finally DID work (on the firewire too!!!!).

Makes me think it was the burner now.

This was the first time I've had to make this many CDs so I think the burner had issues too. I've never used these imation discs before so I thought it was these. I normally use Maxells, Fuji or sony. They ahve all worked great. never tried themin bulk though.

thanks guys

Imation are the cheapest disks I can find. That's enough to scare me off. I did once use a free 10 pack. They all burned at 4x. For important stuff I like the black Memorex. Otherwise the cheap Maxells have never let me down.
