I'm looking into buying a DV cam. I'm no professional, and would really only use it for general screwing around, and filming stuff for myself, or small groups I participate in.

I'm looking at the Canon ZR20.

Does this work ok, or is it a total piece of junk? Quality is good, but I really don't need crazy functions, or ungodly performance. Thanks guys.

Any Canon or Sony DVcam will do a good job - I decide based on how the camera and the controls feel in my hands. I understand that Panasonic is also making good cams, but Canon and Sony have been the leaders. If you don't have any special needs, the ZR-20 should be an excellent choice.

Just be sure to leave room in your budget for extra batteries - you'll need them. Tapes can be bought for $6 each if you look around (I get mine at Costco).

Have fun!
