You guys have any recommendations for a VGA to TV converter that work with a iMac DV SE at 500Mhz?

There are a number of choices. You can get a VGA to TV converter. This is the simplest. Just connect it to the VGA output on the iMac. No software required. There are also converters that run over USB (questionable) and Firewire (much better) but they both will require softare on the iMac to drive them. If you expect the iMac to be busy doing something while you are displaying on the TV then the VGA converter is best.

TVs make lousy output devices unless they are really high end. They are OK for showing images and movies but text is really difficult.

Apple's web site has a search engine for finding Mac compatible products as does MacDirectory. I don't recall if the MacWorld website has a directory but you could search their reviews for good information on the relative merits of tested products.

better off just buying a DVD Player considering the cost of a scan convertor
