i've been using it for the past couple of hours and it's noticably smoother & nicer than 1.5!
i haven't had a chance to use the encoder yet, but i'm excited as hell to have one integrated into audion.

i'm sold.

I really dislike the way it handles playlists and audio CD's.
I might stick with 1.5 for a while cause of that (just personal preference).

Had a chance to try it out finally. It's a very good package. Comes with everything and then some. Great interface. Easy to use. Encodes decodes. Haven't tried the mixer etc. Did use the encoder though.
Encoder results: 4.45min song :2 options
Frounhofer
128kbps- .33sec
256 12min
PMlame
128 1min 30sec
256 2min 50sec
All sound good except for one pop PMlame 256kbps.
Cipher13 I see your point about the playlist.
oh! I guess I was previously hearing impaired or had electrical problems but Audions sound output seems better than all others.

Audion has always had the best sound output
John, why do you want visualisation? You LISTEN to music, you don't watch it!
I wish they'd remove it, its just useless bloat...
But if its what the masses want...
You know what I'd really like to see?
An option to make the hue just change as time goes by, know what I mean?
Just have if go from 0 to 360 and repeat, that would be cool.
Just as long as the app is open it would do that...
I'm sorta getting used to the playlist, its ok for CD's (apart from not having a checkmark on the currently playing song if you go to the 'view quickly' thing), but there should be an option for "simply playlist"...

I can use it as a cool screen saver. Play mp3 from cube but listen mp3 from mini HiFi.
Spectrum analyzer is quite useful too.

It's too slow for me.
I put my entire mp3 collection in one playlist (like I do with Soundjam), and it takes a couple of minutes just to add up up the total time. But that's okay, because it still played while it was doing this.

BUT, when i switch to another app, then switch back to audion, I get like a 5-10 second delay where i can't do anything. damn annoying if you need to kill the sound in a hurry.

Sound quality: well maybe it's just me, but I can't tell the difference between soundjam and audion. they both sound fine.

I was kinda hoping that audion would be as good as or better than soundjam, so that I can at least choose between the two, but for me it's a no brainer: soundjam suits my needs perfectly, audion just don't cut it.

Yup, In Fraunhofer it's dog slow. In terms of speed SJ blows Audion in the weeds, 10 min. compared to less than 3min. at the same settings. Not only that, Audions encoder hogged processor cycles on my computer big time. I was basically shut down till it finished encoding.

I prefer Audion's sound, but SJ is much more refined otherwise. Among other things, A's eq is buried too deep.

Cipher, visualization is not so useful for the most common use of an mp3 player, in the background while working on your computer. But on a second machine, as many people have hooked up to a stereo, it makes a nifty screensaver...at parties it just rocks having your machine hooked up to your stereo & TV, pumping out a long playlist of party tunes, and a great vis plugin churning along with the beat. (This is why I would like it to randomly change visualization plugins at certain intervals, no Mac player does this yet...)
Furthermore, thanks to audion now being plugin-based, if you really consider it's 3MB size bloated, just delete the plugins you don't use.

The new way to handle the playlist is due to the fact that you can now have more than one open. Therefore, everything needs to be a wee bit more complicated in order to ensure that the user isn't too confused.

The visualizations really aren't 'bloat' because they don't effect Audion unless they are enabled. If you don't have 'em enabled, and don't even have any in the plug-ins folder, it won't make the memory footprint bigger, it won't slow anything down etc... that is why they were included as plug-ins and not built in.

The 5-10 second lag that some people are getting is because their linked playlist is searching the folder to see if anything is changed. To keep the linked playlist feature but get rid of the lag go to preferences:general and uncheck "refresh linked playlists automatically." Now Audion will only check the playlist when the program is launched or the playlist is first opened. If you make some changes but you don't want to quit, select refresh from the playlist menu. Panic should have left the button unchecked by default. Who wants to refresh everytime they switch Apps?

Audion 2's encoder is not yet Altivec Enhanced. Apparently that is on tap for a relatively soon 2.1 update.

Have any of you tried Unsanity Echo? If you're looking for a great Visual effects, you can't beat it.
