Hello!
I recently found some movies files that had a "SMR" or "MGR" acronym at the front. Several also said "unsubbed_scr".

Can anyone shed any light on what this means?

I found these terms connected with asf, avi, and mpg files.

Thanks!

SMR and MGR aren't formats, I don't think, unless its whats wrapped in the avi.
Generally you get those scrolling across movies as a watermark type thing, and in the name.
Those movies being ones pirated to DivX or something similar.
The file is just a normal file most likely, and will have that watermark...
SCR to me means screen.
But in that case, unsubbed = no subs... no sub titles?
Something like that...

Thanks!
As it turns out, SMR is a codec that seems to be only available for Windows. SCR seems to refer to the fact that it was captured via a telescreen. unsubbed is exactly what you said: no sub-titles. After more poking around, it seems a lot of theatrical movies get ripped straight from the projector, but in Asia more often than not, so the issue of subtitles matters.

Thanks, again.
Ben
