QuickTime Pro does it fine.
Open your .avi-file, select "Export" and in the options the format you wish. Than have some beer or go to bed. :o

i have pretty bad luck doin that...BUT...if you DONT have QT Pro...there's a freeware program that does it also... email me ifya want it...

f you want to be able to play ALL the formats, you'll have to spring for Virtual PC and run some of the movies
on the Windows side. Some of the codecs are CPU specific (require Intel MMX).

However, some typical Intel-oriented movies that you can play on the mac are available from
http://www.ntk.net/ballmer/mirrors.html. Choose the site closest to you, play the movies and then check into
