How do I make simple DVD videos on my iBook 600. I just bought a Panasonic LF-D311 DVD-RAM/DVD-R drive and a Firewire enclosure. This will be mainly for data backup on my PC, but I'd like to dabble in simple DVD authoring on the Mac side too. However, the only Mac I have is my iBook.

iDVD won't work because it's not an internal burner. DVD Studio Pro won't work because I don't have a G4, right?

So what do I do, short of buying new hardware?

Update: See below for G3 iDVD 2 patch.

toast titanium may let you. it has a DVD option. however I'm not sure if it is also a video DVD option. I know it lets you burn a VCD so hopefully it'll burn a DVD disc that plays in a DVD player. I dunno about that.

I can't believe everyone just resigns themselves to having this not work...

I have successfully burned a DVD with Toast, although it was just a backup of another one. It's not really an authoring program.

But this thread is interesting. Apparently, DVD Studio Pro WILL work on a G3.

Given that Macs are multimedia oriented, I'm surprised at the lack of input. Any input would be of help. Please?

Anyways, this is what I've gleaned:

1) DVD Studio Pro will work on a G3 and will work with external drives.
2) iDVD 2 won't install on a G3 but will work with external drives with a patch. Or perhaps iDVD 2 will install on a G3 with the patch? (Eug hopes.)
3) Astarte M.Pack, which is what iDVD is based upon, will work on a G3 and with external drives.

Here is the patch.

It allows an iBook to work with iDVD 2. However, it doesn't seem to allow iDVD 2 to burn to an external drive from what I've read.
