I'm mixing a CD/Radio show type thing on a CD, and I'm looking for a good piece of software that mixes multiple tracks. Any suggestions.
Either Classic or OS X is fine. Preferably (as always) Freeware, but anything is good. Thanks.

Pro Tools Free is the free version of the best audio application available. Pro Tools is used in every professional post-production facility in the world not to mention every real music studio.

It's probably overkill for what you need, but it's a proven winner, has tons of expansion should you ever need it and why not learn the most used app - especially since it's free.

I admit I'm very partial to Pro Tools, but I've edited and mixed on them all and nothing comes close.

Okay, so I've gotten Protools Free. which looks like a totally cool application, but I'm not sure that it does what I want it to. Allow me to explain what I'm doing, perhaps someone can help me out a little.

I'm making a CD for a Friend. It's a mix of spoken word and music. At some points I want to be speaking over music.

Now I've got Pro Tools Free, but I'm having trouble figuring out two things, and this may be because I'm not familiar with the Tennents of Audio things.
1) When I import various different audio tracks, they seem like they're playing at double speed...
2) Once I have something mixed, I don't know how to get it out of ProTools Free. Is there an export option in it? I can't find it.

I don't have any Midi instruments (I probably never will) and if anyone can offer me some help, I would be very grateful.
Thanks, ahead of time..

PRIVATE email defeats the purpose of PUBLIC forums.

How are any of us going to learn otherwise from someone else's experience?

Good point. Here's the email he sent me.
Hi SirCastor,
No, you're not bugging me at all!
What's that about things being double time? If things are playing to fast it
sounds like a sampling rate problem.

Anyway, to get audio out of your computer when in Pro Tools, hit Command + =
(that's the command key and the equals sign). This gets you into the mix
window. Make sure all of your tracks are set to output Left and Right. I
think it defaults to that, but it should say "out L-out R". Also, make sure
that if you have stereo tracks (like music) that each tracks' pan control is
set correctly - drag them left and right respectively. Since you have a
spoken word track, that tracks pan control should be right in the middle
since it's a mono track.

OK, with all that set up correctly now you can create a file of your
recording, mixing and editing skill! Simply use the "Bounce to Disk"
command, located under the "File" menu. This will play the audio that you've
created in real-time as it converts it to whatever file-type you choose.
After you click "Bounce to Disk" make sure you choose exactly what kind of
file you want by clicking the "Settings" button within the "Bounce to Disk"
dialog box.

If you want to create files of individual areas or "songs" that you've made
then just select the area that you want to Bounce. To do this
, select the Grabber tool (looks like a hand) up in the tool bar, then click
on the first region or piece of audio where you want your Bounce to begin,
then hold down the Shift key and click on the last region that you want to
Bounce.
This should select or highlight the duration of the song that you want to
Bounce. That's all you need to do - just select the duration, not all of the
tracks that you want to Bounce. This is very handy when you want to make a
stereo file or MP3 of something that you've edited.

I hope this isn't too overwhelming. Once you do it it's real easy, but it's
kind of tough to relate via email!

Good Luck,
Cake
