3ivx recommends that you compress audio in iTunes VBR format, but I don't seem to be able to do so! In both Final Cut 2 and Quicktime Pro, if I choose audio compression, neither iTunes VBR nor any other MP3 formats are listed. I have iTunes 1.1 installed. How do I compress audio as iTunes VBR or just MP3?

Also, in Final Cut 2, if under sequence settings I choose 3ivx (or even DivX) as the video compression format, my timeline disappears, and if I try to make the timeline show again, I get the message "General Error," and the timeline doesn't come up! Can't I export to 3ivx or DivX with Final Cut?

You have to convert the audio to MP3 format WITH iTunes. Open the application and go to a menu (Advanced, I think it's called, I have the swedish version) and select something like "Convert to MP3". You can set the compression rate in iTunes prefs.

You can export the movie to 3ivX with QTPro, and then open the MP3 also in QTPro, select everything (in the MP3 track) then alt-paste it into the movie.

thanks for your help. i'll try that out. so, if in quicktime, i paste in the audio from an mp3, the pasted audio remains compressed as mp3?

can i sync up audio and video with quicktime pro alone? what's the best way to go about doing so?

Yes, the audio will still be in MP3 format. I've done this myself a couple of times. The important thing is to hold in the Option (Alt)-button when you paste it. The command shows up in the menu of QTPro5, but I'm not sure of earlier versions.

I don't think QTPro does audio/video syncing, so if you use only QTPro, make sure that the audio track and the video track are about the same length.
