Anyone ever mess with PAL to NTSC conversion?

I'm inclined to buy a PAL camera if there is a good, cheap, fast PAL to NTSC conversion method out there.....this seems promising, but I need more info....
http://www.dvfilm.com/atlantis/index.htm

I found this, but I am skeptical.....

Can anyone enlightn me on PAL to NTSC conversion?

Thanks!

a while ago, it was cheaper to get a socalled video-in camcorder in the states then to buy one over here in europe - so, conversion from ntsc to pal was my problem.

i have to tell you: forget it!

there are some cheap hardware sollutions, little boxes you stick between the camera and your recording device... very low quality!

of course, you can use iMovie with both standards, you can play it back in your camera - but thenß

Question is, what are your plans with your material after shooting?

if Quality is your criteria - buy a socalled 3chip camcorder, that´s best!

I am looking at the Canon XM1.

The idea is to make movies with the idea of transferring to film. But in order to show anything in the US (before the film transfer), I'd need to convert it to NTSC.

With software like premiere you can captuer your footage in PAL or NTSC. But building both projects separately is abit long. I'd like a quick conversion too. If your camera had dv in/out. You can edit your work send it back to miniDV and then recapture the whole edited project in NTSC.

I'm gonna do this soon cause I'm making some dvds at the moment and I'll let you know if i come accross anything...

There is an article here about using After Effects to convert PAL to NTSC.

I know that's the other way round, but maybe the principle can be adapted for NTSC to PAL (haven't tried it myself).

Otherwise the DVFilm Atlantis thing sounds quite interesting. Why not download their demo and try it for yourself?

Ultimately if you've got something really worth showing, it's going to be worth paying to put it through an Alchemist or whatever (pro standards converter).

Since a film transfer will cost thousands of dollars, a hundred bucks or so for a standards conversion shouldn't be too much of stretch
