I extracted an MPEG2 from an SVCD and now I want to convert it to an MPEG1 so I can burn it as a VCD or watch it with QuickTime Player.

How can I accomplish this? QuickTime Pro maybe?

QuickTime Pro can't do this yet. Once QuickTime 6 is released (with Jaguar in September), you should be able to export a MPEG-2 file to MPEG-1. Until then, you're probably going to need to use some professional app like Final Cut Pro or DVD Studio Pro. I don't know of any free or consumer apps that will do this.

However, you can watch the MPEG-2 file with vlc. Also, you can use the MPEG-2 file to burn another SVCD.

Here's some more information: http://forums.macnn.com/cgi-bin/ulti...9&t=002640

Thanks, man. I can play them with vlc, but that's only on OSX... And I only have this one OSX machine. My friends and my other computers are running OS9 or Windows, and MPEG2 is a pain in the butt.

This laptop doesn't have much storage, and I don't wanna watch movies on it... I like to burn my movies as MPEG1 on a CD so I can play them with QuickTime and copy them where I please. My DVD player can't read SVCDs, so I really have no use for this MPEG2 piece of crap file

Thanks for the info, man.

Well, I remembered from some DVD ripping I had done that there is an MPEG2 converter for Mac... MacMPEG2Decoder. I get an error when I try to open my MPEG2 file up, though: "MPEG-@ PES packetError Code:1"

Ugh!

I got it... That error means that the MPEG2 file has both Audio and Video parts. MacMPEG2Decoder can only work with the video portion, so you have to use bbDemux to extract the different streams from the muxed MPEG2 file.

Search on VersionTracker for bbDemux. I'll update if I can figure out the process to get an MPEG1 file (playable in QuickTime 5).

Bah, I get an error about an hour into the conversion saying something about the Hoffman Intra Part or something. Oh well.
