I've been living in London for the past two years, and one of my biggest frustrations is that music CD's average about $17.50 (£12.00).

But this is nothing compared to what I have just discovered about DVD-RW blank discs.

From what I've been able to find on the internet, it looks like buying DVD-RW's in single quantities in the States will cost me about $4.00. But here in the UK, that same DVD-RW costs $24.00 (before tax... $30.00 after tax)!!!

Can anyone explain why the prices for DVD-RW's are so different between the US and the UK? What a racket someone seems to be running...

In the US:

Ritek DVD-RW 4.7 GB 1 Pack
(Shop4Tech# princo dvd-rw+jewel-case only+jewel-tray - Mfg# RITEK DVD-RW 4.7GB)
Your Price: $ 3.99 <£2.74>
Availability: In Stock http://www.shop4tech.com/cgi-bin/sho...p;subchoice_2=

In the UK:

Verbitum DVD-RW Media 4.7Gb JC Media (Single) £17.01 <$24.80> (without VAT) £19.99 <$29.14>(with VAT)

first off, you're comparing a relatively generic brand (Ritek) with a name brand (Verbatim). i just bought a Verbatim DVD-RW at a local computer store here in the states, and it was $16.99. while it is still cheaper in than $24.80, it's really close.

i guess it all comes down to manufacturers. maybe they put different list prices for different countries. at the same computer store where i got that DVD-RW, they also had TDK and Pioneer DVD-RW's, but they were both $24.99. so why are Verbatim's cheaper? i don't know, they're all very reputable brands.

have you tried ordering DVD-RW's from the states? if you can find a retailer who will ship to you, then you can get some pretty good deals.
