I've been told, no.
The 68K processors are not powerful enough to decode an mp3 in real time and play it... apparently.
I still dunno. I think they've got plenty of power to do it. But who am I to say that?
Run a search of the 'older systems and clones' for '68K, cipher13 and mp3'.
It should be there somewhere. It was a while back.

You can play MP3s at CD quality with a 486/66. Look for a player called 'Soritong' in download.com, it's got the best playing engine so far imho.

68040 chips are capable of playing MP3s. The only reason you can't get one to do it is there have been no programs written for 68k Macs to play MP3s.

I've heard that 68K aren't powerful enough to play MP3's too. Though I've also heard that if you convert them to wave or AIFF files, you can play them. The problem is that those are huge files and most 68K machines don't have the disk space to put many songs on.

That's too bad... I'm sure someone could develop a player for 68k though. Developers anyone? My IIfx would never be the same!
