Has anyone heard any rumors about possible support for Divx on OSX. The codec for OS9.1 isn't bad, but doesn't hold a candle to the Windoze version.

It's difficult to convince my PeeCee friends about the superior graphics and video strength of our platform of choice when they can do things we can't (or can't very well...)

Jeez... maybe I should just post the same answer to every discussion in this forum...

Apple originally promise MPEG-1, MPEG-2 and MPEG-4 support for QuickTime 5 but they recently announced that it would come at a later time. MPEG-1 is used in VCDs, MPEG-2 is used in DVDs and MPEG-4 is what is often referred to as Divx.

So, QuickTime 5.0 shipped with Mac OS X and Apple recently released QuickTime 5.0.1 for Mac OS 9.X but both will have to wait for direct Mac OS support with an update to QuickTime 5!

While MPEG-4 is often referred to as Divx, it is not the same as the Divx format currently being used by the Windows community.

The problem is of course that the Divx codec being used is not TRUE MPEG-4 ...
