I've had some trouble with certain DVDs (most notably the Region 2 version of Buffy the Vampire Slayer) displaying horizontal 'shearing' during scenes with rapid motion. I've heard that this may be because of the decoding method that Apple has chosen to use with it's software player. Just wondering if this is true and if anyone knows whether Apple's working on a fix? Perhaps the OSX player will support better decoding?

By "shearing" do you mean it sort of looks like a comb with even and odd lines not quite lining up.

if yes, this is because a lot of dvd's are stored in interlaced format. this is when the odd lines are drawn first, then the even lines. on a normal telly you won't notice this but on a computer monitor it looks bad.

many computer players have whats called "adaptive de-interlacing" which cleans this up but unfortunately apple's player doesn't. radeon cards have the ability to do this but apple has to update their dvd player first. sorry, you probably just have to put up with it for now.
