i have to tell this to someone else or i will explode... ...

i have QT5 preview installed
i tried media cleaner 5 pro on a file that i extracted as a "chapter" from a dvd with dvdextractor0.7 and...

the cleaner actually showed an icon of the file (a preview is only available if the codec is there) and double clicked the icon on the batch window...tada...the mpeg2 file showed up at a glorious 720x540 size.

encoding it is as simple as any with any qt file.

i dont think the cleaner used an internal decoder. i think it uses qt5's own decoder...

any comments/ideas?

Amazing! I'll have to give this a try tomorrow! Can you try opening the same file under the QuickTime Player and see what happens?

Belive your codec came with Media Cleaner 5.0 not QT.

I just tried it and agree, but I can't open it up in the QT player. Cleaner 5 also creates a separate audio file.

well it actually is the cleaner that has the codec =[O]
but i have to say that i opened the mpeg extension of quicktime and the dvd runtime library and i think there is something in there...
although i cant find anything to do with mpg2 if i try to see the 'thng' objects in the quicktime registry...
back to the begining...

I do not get it working! Can you tell me if you have any other programs/codecs installed? Cleaner shows a "?" as icon (in the batch window) and says it can not open the movie... I have installed media cleaner5 (not media charger). So please give me some advice. Thanx!

If your icon in Cleaner shows a "?", then there is a problem with the source file. I don't mean that the file is bad, It's just that cleaner doesn't recognize it. When you find a format that cleaner doesn't give you a "?", then try the mpeg2 thing. It'll work. I'm using both a DV format file and one that was already conpressed with sorenson at 720x480 (originally from DV).

Good luck.

Can you specify which system you use? (I use 9.04) Iam sure that Cleaner5 does not recognize the files. Quicktime or mpeg1 files work fine in Cleaner. Do you have any other audio/video programs installed (with more codecs??? for ex. mpeg power pro?).
How did you install Cleaner5 (custom/easy) Did you install any Cleaner5 additions? How can I fix the mpeg2 files, so that Cleaner recognizes them?
After loading the mpeg2, cleaner works sometime with it (seems as it tries to open it), ending the "?"...
THANKS FOR YOUR HELP!

believe it. the codec is build into Media Cleaner 5.
But u won't be able to open files larger than 2 GB.
i use dvdextractor 0.7b to rip the vob's from a dvd
(in multiple parts),
than i use mpeg2decoder 1.4 (versiontracker)to
convert the files to qt movies. Media cleaner is
boaring slow on converting.

but i think, apple will implement mpeg2 codec to
qt5 release. that would make our lifes a lot easier.
