Can anybody help me, I can't seem to get anywhere with itunes, it crashes every time I try to use it?

When I first downloaded it, it worked fine but now a track will play and everything else freezes.

I have a 400 TiBook and I tried switching off the Toast 4.1.1 extentions but that made no difference.

I also just bought an Adaptec SCSI card and a LaCie Firewire CD writer so maybe these things didn't help either?

I guess compared to some of you guys, I'm a complete novice and forgive me if you've been through this before.

Thanks.

Hm, sounds as if something in your system is f*#!-ed up.

First, try to remove the whole iTunes package from your computer. Then install it again. Don't forget all these libraries in the System folder...

If this doesn't help, it's probably somewhere deeper in the system, and you should consider re-installing the system anyway because sooner or later you will run into other problems.

Are you running with VM on or off? If off, you may consider bumping up the memory allocation on iTunes.

Do you have UMAX scanner software installed on your system? There was a known issue there (not sure if this was fixed with 1.1 or not.

Anyway, it produced exactly those symptoms on my machine before I got rid of all the extensions etc.

Re-install the latest version of QuickTime, and then reinstall iTunes again.

iTunes (to its detriment) uses the QuickTime 'engine' to play mp3s, unlike SoundJam which uses its own engine.

Trash the iTunes Prefs. If that doesn't help, delete the iTunes folder from your Documents folder, and create your playlists all over again.

Good luck.

I have a Umax with the software installed,no problems running i-tunes.(1.1)
If you look in your extensions, turn of all extensions Umax put in,except for the one that has your scanners model nr. in it. The rest you don't need.(Umax software installs extensions for all their scanners, not just for the one you're installing.Pretty stupid if you ask me!)
