The REALmagic Xcard is a PCI plug-in card for the PC that supports full hardware decoding of MPEG-4 and MPEG-1 or 2 files, as well as high quality audio/video output to your TV and surround sound receiver. The REALmagic Xcard turns the PC into a client player for content from DivX Networks, DVD or VideoCD discs, and ISMA compliant video streams.
I don't get it. The DivX codec itself is still changing, let alone the other MPEG-4 variants like 3ivx. And what about Apple's real MPEG-4 codec? I'm 75% sure that whatever it is that divx.com is distributing is not compliant with the MPEG-4 standard. Is it?

Perhaps you can upgrade the card or something, but for $99, I don't think that's it's going to be anything amazing. DVD and MPEG 2 playback is nice, but MPEG-4 has been a standard for some time from Apple, but I wonder if they are using the standard or going out on their own...

As far as I know Divx4 does follow the official MPEG-4 codec standards. Secondly, to the second poster, MPEG is not an "Apple standard." ... MPEG is an MPEG standard. The only part of MPEG-4 that is based on Apple technology is the file container format, which is based on the MOV file container format. The codec itself has absolutely nothing to do with Apple.
