I just got a HipZip audio player from Iogmega, and I'm curious if anyone knows if there is a way to downsample existing mp3's to a lower bit rate so that I can fit more on one clik disk?

Yes, you need an encoder (Audion 2, SoundJam, N2MP3)...

Okay, I know how to encode CD tracks using my encoder, but how do I downsample existing mp3 tracks with an encoder? I still can't figure it out. thanks.

you must decompress the mp3 to an aiff file with SoundApp or DropDecoder (maybe it's called MPecker Decoder now)

use www.macdigitalaudio.com to find these apps

and then you can recompress the aiff to mp3 with your usual mp3 encoder with the option 32kHz or 22kHz instead of -unchanged- 44kHz

hope this is enough, do you want more explanations ?

Which encoder do you use? All the ones that I use fully support encoding an MP3 without the need to decode it to AAIF. Just drag and drop the MP3 on top of your encoder (or via a playlist/converter if you're using Audion 2 or SoundJam), choose your settings, and encode...
