Why does Divx require WMP 6.3 when it has a QT 5 UI?

I downloaded Divx and since it requires windows media player, I downloaded that too but when I play .avi files, the UI is the quicktime layer. Why?

I believe it uses codecs present in Windows Media Player.
The UI is a totally seperate thing.
