I'll try and make this short. For about 7 months I've been using a JVC camcorder with my iMac. I've had to use it with the Sony DA-1 because JVC's version of firewire didn't jive with Apple's version or something like that. Anyway, I'm a musician and I needed a CD burner to create some CD's. I first got a Que (usb) and was not happy with its performance. It would only burn at 2X. Last week I got a Yamaha firewire burner. First, the performance is AWESOME. I burn at 8X with no problem. Then I noticed that the burner had two firewire ports. Hmmmmm......I wonder.......I grabbed my JVC and plugged it into the Yamaha (which was of course plugged into the iMac). I started iMovie2 and LO and BEHOLD it saw the JVC!!!. A fluke I said to myself. Well it's been over a week and iMovie and the JVC are still in love. It's a real joy being able to control the camera with the software. What's weird is that I read somewhere that iMovie doesn't want to see any other firewire devices while it's running. Well, so much for that theory. It doesn't matter if the Yamaha is on or off, the JVC still operates. Just for peace of mind I plugged the JVC directly into the iMac and, you guessed it, nothing happened. The connection was lost. So, there you have it. I'm a very happy camper. BTW, I think any firewire device would do the same (provided it has two ports). I read here along time ago someone had a similar experience with a firewire hard drive.
Happy Holidays!!!!! All is right with the world!!!!
