A couple of my friends are in the process of making an iMovie. We would like to know how we could export the movie to VHS. The cords that we need, the equipment that we need, software, etc. We would really appreciate all the help that you can give us.

it depends on whether your camcorder has analog video out capabilities. Many of the camcorders (most mini-dv and all digital8) I have seen have the ability to connect to analog source (such as a VCR) via either an RCA or S-Video connector. If your camera has such capabilities, you need to export your finished movie to the camcorder, connect it to the VCR and then just play the movie (after you pressed "record" on the VCR). If your camcorder does not have the analog out feature, I believe you would need a firewire to analog bridge to connect your firewire cpu or camcorder to your analog VCR. I think SOny makes on of these and it seems like I have heard of another company that also makes them. THey are at least $200 if I recall.

rjc3 is right. If both your VCR and video camera have S-Video connections, then use it instead of the RCA, because it is better quality. It is such a downgrade of quality from MiniDV/Digital8, but at least you can preserve it a little better using the S-Video connection. Myself, my camera allows both, but my VCR is strictly RCA. So I'm not sure how much better quality it is than RCA. This also brings about a question: S-Video cable brings video, and the yellow RCA cable brings sound. So is it only mono sound? How does this work? Is stereo sent through one cable?
