I want to make movies from my analog camcorder. I've been looking at the USB capture devices from xlrs and Golbal Village. I already have Avid Videoshop 3.0. My questions are:

1) Can I capture decent quality video using these devices?
2) The xlr8 comes with stratastudio(?) and GV has some poor software. Does it matter if I have Avid or do I need another application?
3) Once captured, can I use these clips in Imovie? I read that they have to be converted into DV but I thought they become digital once captured, What am I missing?
4) Do I need to upgrade to QT pro? If so, what does it do/why?
5) Assuming I can capture and edit all of this, can I export the moves back to tape to watch on the TV?

My hardware is G4/400 with 128 megs Ram. I have USB an Firewire and a 20 Gig HD. Do I need anything else? I have an ATI 128 card with 16 megs of RAM. Is there a PCI card that will do all of this (a la my old 7600) for about the same price (around $200).

Thanks.

I am definitely not an expert in this field, but I do know that USB is not the preferred way of doing anything relating to video. I would try to find a firewire solution. USB is very very slow in comparison.
